Our customer is an international aircraft manufacturer and regular backups are naturally a standard part of using and processing digital data. With backups from several different sources, there is a risk of errors not being detected or being detected too late, which can lead to serious data loss and cost companies time and money.
In this project, an older application for collecting backup data that no longer met the customer's high standards was to be replaced. This meant that new, additional servers could only be connected with considerable development effort. Furthermore, there was hardly any development knowledge available for the outdated technology in order to operate the existing application reliably in the future.
The aim was to quickly develop a modern, intuitive application that was tailored to the specific needs of the users and that could easily manage the large number of backups and reliably detect faulty backups.
The new application was developed using the Oracle APEX low-code platform. The backup data was to be queried as directly as possible via REST so that the raw data could be processed according to the user's own requirements. A feature that the existing application could not provide. Additional data sources were connected via a database link.
The new solution was developed using an agile process based on Scrum. Progress was presented in weekly meetings with the client's employees, improvements were discussed and all stakeholders were informed about the current status of the project. This ensured the support of the management and guaranteed effective collaboration.
The project team was able to set up and launch the relevant pages in APEX in the shortest possible time, taking into account all individual requirements, so that the customer did not experience any problems due to downtime.
The new application processes large volumes of data, currently several 10,000 backups a day. It simplifies the day-to-day work of employees thanks to its intuitive handling and clear presentation. The fast and reliable detection of faulty backups and the processing of large volumes of backup copies represents enormous added value for the customer.
Incorrect backups, such as an unusually large number, can cause additional costs. As soon as these anomalies are detected by the application, appropriate measures can be taken quickly. As a further improvement, the tool can be used to create reports that support the billing process.
