Our customer, EUROPIPE GmbH, was faced with the challenge of completely replacing the logistics system previously used. It was used for loading, shipping, internal transportation, generation of delivery and freight documents and management of means of transport. The system was outdated (mainframe-based) and generated high annual license costs. At the start of the project, a fixed target date was defined by which the full range of functions had to be implemented. EUROPIPE therefore commissioned us to replace the existing solution with a web application developed with Oracle APEX. The new application was to be fully integrated into EUROPIPE's existing application landscape and, among other things, map communication with the in-house SAP system, transport service providers and the production software developed in-house.
An initial analysis of the scope of functions to be implemented was carried out before the start of the project. The documentation of the existing software and the knowledge of the experienced employees from EUROPIPE's IT and specialist departments served as the basis for the new development. Based on this, we defined epics and user stories and carried out the implementation in two-week sprints. After each sprint, we were able to provide a new version of the application and obtain regular feedback from the customer. At the end of the project, we switched to weekly releases so that we could provide the customer with feedback for testing in a timely manner.
The application was successfully put into operation within the specified time and handed over to EUROPIPE. We were able to map the defined range of functions. In addition, some new functionalities were implemented according to the wishes of the specialist department and features that were not required were eliminated. Furthermore, new use cases were identified that are to be developed in a subsequent phase. The feedback from the specialist department was consistently positive.
